This is how it was done . . . I can relate the changes that I know of at the end.For the past number of years, the All-State Team selection process has been run by Perry Novak, the editor of NYSSCOGS. Somehow, I'm not sure how, each Section in the state was allotted a certain number of slots on the All-State Teams. The slots were pre-determined before the players were picked for the teams.
An example of this is last years teams. https://www.rochestervball.com/highschool/all_state_2001.asp?Class=A
If you look at the First Team in Class A, a slot was reserved for a player from the Spring season. I never saw an updated list, so that's is why they are not filled in the listing on the website.
How each Section determined their players was up to each Section. I am aware of how Section V did it in the Fall and Winter seasons.
In the Fall, players were selected by Section officials who watched the Sectional Tournament. The players from the Monroe County League were determined by the coaches in end of season voting.
At the end of last year there was a lot controversy on how the teams were selected, announced etc. If you were not a member of NYSSCOGS (and paid the $20 annual membership), you may have had no idea that one of your players was selected to a team. I was told at the end of last season, that the Sections were going to petition the State to take control of the selection process back. I'm pretty sure that has happened. I just don't know the whole process know. When I do, I'll let you know.
Sorry for the delay in helping out, I haven't looked at the Discussion Board for a few days.
Hope this helps . . .
Mike
