I just have a comment on the All County Selection:
To my knowledge there are only two girls in Monroe County, actually only two girls in all of Section V (so far), who have Division I scholarships.

One player is co-player of the year - the other doesn't even make 1st team. How is that possible?

That is the worst selection I have ever seen in my entire
life. To put Megan on the second team is ridiculous. Yea, her
team was not too good, but she was still be far the best player
on her team. She did lead her team in kills, blocks, and digs.
Yet they put her teammate Megan Hyland on first team over her??
I don't understand it. Who picks this team? People that don't know
crap about volleyball? Do they just say, oh I we need someone
from webster, and then close their eyes and pick a name out of a hat?
Maybe the coaches just didnt know which megan was which. I'm not
saying all this cause she's my gf or anything. I'm saying it
because it is absurd and boggles the mind. I think there should
be a new committee implemented next year, preferably one that knows
at least somethign about the game of volleyball. I think you could
have a group of 5 year old kids watch all the girls play and pick a
better first and second team than that.

Dan's point is exactly the one that I was trying to make - before the season if anyone asked how Webster's team was going to be...they said - well, they have Megan Smith. During the season - watching - it was obvious that Megan Smith was the best player on the team. No doubt. Not that she didn't have off games - but name one person on the 1st team that didn't.

If all county is representatives of the best players in Monroe County then how can you leave off one of the best. If she wasn't one of the best --- then she wouldn't have gotten a 30,000/year scholarship and someone else from Monroe County/Section V would have. You would think that the county would want some credit on such an outstanding player. Also, by screwing her out of 1st team - you also screw her out of chances at all state. That makes both lists - a joke.

I deff agree w/ all of you that meg smith should have been on the all county first team with out question, she led her team the whole year and if her team did well she could have possibly gotton player of the year. One thing i dont agree on is putting down Meg Hyland for making the first team and also saying that all state and all county is a joke. Anyways I beleave the all county team is still selected by the coaches in monroe county. I cant think of a better group to slelect the team then them, but it does seem in boys and girls that some one great is always left out and same goes w/ all tournament team and the MVP selection. I cant think of a way to fix it, does anyone have any ideas?

I don't think anyone was putting down Megan Hyland for making the 1st team (at least not the way your saying) - it's an opinion that if only one girl from Webster was going to make it - Megan Hyland did not deserve to make it over Megan Smith. Maybe Webster should have had two then - they had more than one last year with the same record. The funny thing is - that if the roles were reversed and Megan Smith made 1st team and Megan Hyland made second - I doubt there would have been any complaints.

Okay - maybe I shouldn't have said that the process was a joke, my apologies. However, there is something terribly wrong when a player at that level doesn't make the first team. I'm not sure how to fix it but when a player is that obvious - I can't comprehend how they are left off.

Megan Smith is going to Rider.

Also, Gates Chili barely did better than Webster and Christie got Player of the Year (and is NO DOUBT, one of the best players in the county) - so just the fact that Webster didn't have a great season shouldn't have made a difference.

I don't see a problem with the teams. The best players were put on the first team, and thats that. I think that it is pretty low of all of you at the fact that you are all discussing those who you think should have made the first team. If you or "your player" didn't the first team, cry about maybe it will make a difference...

I agree that Megan Smith no doubt should have made first team, but I also agree that its not worth getting upset about it because nothing can be done to change it.

Also, how does everyone know who is player of the year?

It's easy to say that it's not worth getting upset about when it's not you. Your right - it's not going to change the outcome, but when an injustice is done - you should speak up so perhaps next time it won't.

<b>The best players were not put on the best team and that's that </b>as cry-about-it states. Hello - that's the whole point. A college scholarship is not easy to come by, ask anyone who is trying to get one. It's an amazing accomplishment and it's not going to be given to someone who is not one of the best! Period.

Also - no one's crying! B----ing, but not crying. Megan paid her dues, worked hard and should have been recognized for it. It's true, the list won't change and she'll always have bitter feelings about it - but she's moving on to bigger and better things and we'll be reading her name on a lot more than just this list.

I could not agree more that Megan Smith is definately one of the best players in the county, and totally deserved to be on first team. She is a hard worker, and is an amazing athlete. I could not think more of her, and think it is b.s. that she didn't make first team. I guess all I was saying is that nothing we say will change anything, so its not worth arguing over, so maybe I worded it wrong when I said its not worth getting upset over... but I think anyone who watched Webster play will agree that Megan is the best player on her team, and one of the best in the county.

Just a point not discussed yet.....all county honors are more than just what happens on the court.....I am not saying it was involved in any of the selections this season....but it has been discussed in the past in other selection meetings in the past. Dont fry your brain trying to figure out the choices for any given season.....in my mind, and having won and lost many honors to the process, I think that is what makes these honors interesting.....
The players who stood out know what they have done...and yes it would be nice to get the honors...but The players who made a team then have to question themselves at some point .....was i really honored for what I did...or was someone else better...and left off. This is what I am finding out as the years pass......I know many a better player than me who never made a list.....and they kept getting better despite the omission. To all of those who feel slighted...I say congratulations.....you now know how it feels to really care about something....you have now joined the many among us who tried to do better because they felt something....disappointment. Like the bad loss you cant seem to forget...it is a motivation to go out and work harder....you know what you have accomplished....go and bury that memory with more accomplishments, not excuses.....Congrats to all who feel they gave as much as they could give this season....you are the winners.

Great comments Q, agree w/ u totaly...Meg Smith might have not been on the first team but she did show everyone what she has by getting to the D-1 level,it is probably disapointing for her now but she knows and the rest of the volleyball community knows that she had some great volleyball seasons in High School. Now meg just get on the all confrence team in college!
