Hope to make it to the Victor @ Penfield match - that will be huge.
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
It was a fun match to watch. Penfield was up 23-22 in #1 before a sideout and Griffin served it out. In #2 Victor was down 21-19. Atypical service errors by Penfield in #3 provided a bit of breathing room for Victor although it was still back and forth. When Penfield had 3 option passes, their kill ratio was HUGE. Thanks for the entertaining volleyball.

Sounds like an awesome match - maybe someone will post the tape of the game for those that could not make it.

Penfield played fundamentally sound as you would expect from that system and coaching staff (they had errors, but limited). Victor made plenty of errors and was sloppy at times, especially with their passing (many service errors as well). If Victor eliminates the errors, they would have won each game 25-20.

I saw the match and both teams can play better.
Penfield kept shooting themselves in the foot every time they got a run going by serving in the net.
Victor has to pass better...they have plenty of fire power.

enjoyable game to watch

I think more people need to talk about some unexpected contenders for a big run in Sectionals. Spencerport, Brockport, and webster are the ones that nobody will see coming.

Spencerport has a great passing team with so much height.. with three big hitters who i think all play pace and an extremely good libero they very well could make a run in Sectionals. They come out guns a blazin with big kills and powerful serves . A very clutch team with a terrifying amount of flare and the ability to take the momentum of a game within a moments notice they could be someone to watch out for. They gave West Irondequiot a run for their money, and webster too. They came back from losing the first two to beat Brockport. who knows what this team can do when they get fired up.

Brockport is a threat for one reason. consistency. they have 2 quite consistent steady outsides. with a senior experienced leader setter, solid passing , decent blocking, and a mean defense they are extremely consistent and dangerous when they get on a roll. One of the toughest teams to knock down and gain a lead. They force teams to crumble under the pressure in big situations, which is where they shine and why they could be a threat at sectionals this year.

Webster is a big team with more height that you can imagine. They have a team of all pace middles, 2 pace setters, and a very talented libero. they have the biggest block in section V but lack much in serve recieve. I wouldn't consider them a huge threat but with their blocks and powerful middles they can never be counted out.

Spencerport and Brockport are very solid teams but they just aren't strong enough to face the top dogs of Section V. I looked at both teams results thus far and found Specerport to be currently 3-4 with losses to Brighton (in 3), Irondequoit (in 3), Churchville (in 5) and Webster (in 4). Brockport is currently 3-3 with losses to Webster (in 5), Spencerport (in 5) and Rush (in 4). With your analysis on unexpected teams that could make a deep run I would certainly agree with your pick with Webster. They are a very big team and have alot of power but I think they could be the only real sleeper. I can't really see any other team up top (aside from Mcq, Penfield and Rush).

Only problem with the Webster middles is that they keep trying to convert at least one of their middles to an outside hitter, cutting down on their blocking. They should be dominating the middle in all their matches.

you are right about Webster - have to keep those guys in the middle and set them all the time until they are double blocked and then things will free up for outside and rightside.

You would think one westside team could sneak into the semis come sectional time but if they keep beating up on themselves it will hurt their seeding and make it very difficult.

I think Spencerport is definitely the most Avid Threat here. they are exactly the kind of team that will kinda start slow in the season, but pull it all together by sectionals and they have an unmatched amount of flare and flash with the way the trow out big kills, huge blocks, and sick digs. and their growing consistency is getting better everytime they play a team. Their schedule has also been extremely tough. They have a great line up. they got me scared.

Spencerport has played tough against irond., webster, and fairport , they just cant seem to break through,. Surprised their libero, jeff fleming wasnt mentioned as one of the best as he is a full time libero with a very solid game, having led them to a division title last year and has turned in some great performances this year , especially irond and brockport, leading team back from 0-2 in a hotly contested divisional match-up.

i think keith adam sam, and jeff,(their three big hitters and libero) are probably 4 of the top 5 players in that division, (the other being Eric B. Of Brockport). and they probably could take this team farther then expected. only because seeing them in the beginning against churchville and in their last game against fairport the improvement in that team is ridiculous, if they keep getting better at this rate they could be that top 4 sleeper team that nobody see's coming. their weak side is quite a soft spot though. which is why they havent broke through as much as expected. wes turner of fair port and tim ferriter of west irondequiot , and other powerful outsides of webster and such seem to just hit over them everytime. if they patch that spot up we could be looking at a top 4 sleeper.

Although i believe that both spencerport and and brockport are more talented then previous years i still think it is going to webster that can break through and surprise some people. They played a close match against penfield so watch out for them. They have very talented middles that if they can improve the passing and set them more consistently they will be very good

spencerport did lose to hilton though, which shocks me, because they really only have one talented player on that whole team. we'll see how they do against a top dog contender, it will be a good test to see if they could be a real sleeper in sectionals this year when victor travels to spencerport tonight at 6 according to the D & C
