“We knew we had a very good chance (to win the whole thing),” American captain Dane Leclair said after the 25-23, 25-21, 25-20 victory. “We feel elated and pretty excited.”
The first set of the final was mostly a back-and-forth affair. The Americans pulled away toward the end of the second set.
The U.S. picked up in the third set where it left in the second. After a few minutes, the Americans had a 5-1 lead against Cuba and led by as much as 21-13.
“They did exactly what we expected them to do,” USA coach Ken Shibuya said.
A Patrick Gasman kill sealed the 25-20 win and a gold medal for the Americans.
“All week we were talking about grinding teams out, and it really showed tonight,” Leclair said. “We were just consistently a better team.”
Team USA had a distinct home-court advantage. The home crowd began the match by yelling the “We Believe” chant made popular by the American Outlaws soccer fans. Every American point was met with loud applause, and it made a tough environment for the Cubans.
“The crowd was really loud, so it created a lot of pressure for us to play,” Cuban captain Daikel Luna Fernandez said through a translator.
Leclair said the fans’ enthusiasm created a great playing experience for the team.
“Having everyone on our side was crazy, insane,” Leclair said. “Great atmosphere, unbelievably fun, and we were really feeling it at the end.”]]>

Each camp day is broken up into two sessions, session 1 will focus on skill development and session 2 will center around scrimmages to practice new skills and improve as a complete player. The camp is designed to: provide quality volleyball instruction, to introduce and advance solid volleyball fundamentals, to teach higher level volleyball skills based on each players ability and development, and to HAVE FUN.
The head coaches are Christopher Parks (McQuaid Jesuit), John O'Dell (Fairport), and Joe Bellanca (Rush Henrietta).

Martin (Victor) – Surprised a bit that he hasn’t been mentioned in the discussion. Bounced back from a .500 year last year after winning sectionals/states in his first year the year before. If Victor wins the d2 state title this year seems he should be considered for co-coach.
Austin (Spencerport) – Clearly has built up the program at Spencerport over the last several years to be a top tier competitor in Class BB. Won class BB coach of the year this year, but imo outside chance for COY without a breakthrough title win in sectionals.]]>

Age Divisions:
Open Juniors - any players 18 and under
15 & Under - must qualify as a 15s player or below per USAV guidelines
Co-ed height net, co-ed rules, hard court, not more than 2 boys on a team. (It is ok to play with just 1 boy or all girls, too!)

What would you say are the best rivalries in section V for Class A and Class B?

If you are talking about throughout the history of Section V, then it probably has to be Penfield/McQuaid. Victor and Midlakes may have met more times in the sectional finals recently, but going back into the late 70's I'm not sure anyone has met more times than Penfield/McQuaid.
If you are talking about the last decade or so, then either Penfield/McQuaid or Victor/Midlakes.]]>

<b>Friday, February 17, 2012 at 7:00pm in the Midlakes High School Gym. Warm-ups will start at 6:00pm.</b>
This match will be a homecoming for Midlakes Alumni, Dan Mowery and EJ Wells-Spicer, who are starters for Nazareth College as well as their high school teammate, Erin Kelly, who starts for Medaille College. The trio returns to Midlakes to play in a benefit match to help raise money for their former Midlakes teammate, David Crouch, and David’s family.
David tragically passed away in a farming accident on his family farm not very long after his graduation. Now in the past months, David’s father, John Crouch, has been diagnosed and started treatment for cancer of the blood. All proceeds from admissions and other fundraisers on site will go to aide the Crouch family in their time of need.
Admissions: $5 for Adults, $3 for Students,
and $15 max for a family (2 adults with 2 or more kids)
This is awesome championship level collegiate volleyball right here in the Finger Lakes. Come enjoy and be a part of an exciting night for a great cause. We want you to bring your friends, your neighbors, and your families, and please spread the word. We want to knock the socks off these two outstanding teams with our crowd so help us put a body in every seat.
Local talent from Nazareth also includes Penfield grads Ellis Walsh and Luke Lawatsch. The Medaille roster includes Cory Phillips (Victor) and Zack Beattie (Irondequoit).

It seems like through the many years, no matter who is the coach, the PACE 16s is the strongest PACE team. Not sure why that is so but it seems that way to me.

The USA Volleyball High Performance (HP) Department is pleased to announce its rosters for the 2011 Boys’ Youth and Select Holiday Camp, slated for Dec 26-30 at the Epic Volleyball Club in Poway, Calif.
Thirty-two youth and 17 select athletes (Youth are boys born 1996-1997 and Select are boys born 1994-1995) will join a six-person coaching staff led by head coach Ken Shibuya for a unique opportunity to practice at the highest level of volleyball at these ages. Shibuya currently serves as Stanford University men’s volleyball associate head coach and has a long list of accomplishments in the volleyball world.
Among his highlights, Shibuya helped Stanford to the 2010 NCAA Men's National Collegiate Volleyball Championship title and was the head coach of Juniata College's men's volleyball program when it won three consecutive Molten Division III Men's Invitational Volleyball Championships. Shibuya has been a member of the coaching staff for the U.S. Boys’ Youth Team for five years since 2004 and has served in many levels of the boys' High Performance pipeline.
“I have had the pleasure of being involved with the Holiday Camp for the past few years and have enjoyed watching the tremendous growth of each athlete as they move on. This is a great event for all involved,†Shibuya said. “The staff and players have to give up some time away from their families during the holidays – this, in itself, shows how committed they are to becoming great. And it is all well worth it as we bring in some of the best young players in the nation to train and compete.â€
Joining Shibuya will be assistant coach Dan Friend, head coach of the men’s volleyball team at Lewis University of Chicago. In addition, Friend served as assistant coach under Shibuya with the 2011 Boys’ Youth National Team in Mexico during the Youth Pan American Games. Also assisting will be Kevin Moore from Juniata College, Matt Martin from St. Louis High Performance Volleyball Club, Jonah Carson for the University of the Pacific and Dave Hunt of Pepperdine University.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with these talented young players and coaches over break,†Friend said. “It will be great to see the improvements that these players have made and make good evaluations on where they might be in the pipeline. I expect the players and coaches to work hard over the short period to maximize touches and opportunities. I can get a good start on the evaluation for the U.S. Youth Team and work on building some report.â€
The USAV HP Department prides itself on offering tools, like the Holiday Camp, to young athletes to ensure best practices and habits for future volleyball careers at the collegiate level and beyond. The camp is not used as the 2012 tryout for the athletes and will not determine what level they will compete in the summer months; but it offers a bridge between seasons to showcase individual and team improvement.
“As a player at the camp, you will find out what your strengths and weaknesses are when you go against the best,†Shibuya said. “With this knowledge, you can figure out how to reach your true potential as you grow in the sport. As I have found out through my time with USA Volleyball and the High Performance pipeline, our athletes need to be continually exposed to the highest levels of play in order to compete with the world's best. The Holiday Camp is another opportunity for this to happen.â€]]>
This is getting too personal, especially when its adults negatively talking about kids. Let's just say that there are more good players than can make the AGR. This is the case every year for every sport.
