On Monday 2,000 athletes, family members, coaches and fans witnessed the opening ceremonies of the 13th annual USA Volleyball High Performance Championships. Thanks to live streaming, spectators from nine different countries got the chance to witness them as well.

“I think the live streaming for the opening ceremonies was very special to have,â€￾ said Jen Armson Dyer, the operations director of the Badger Region. “It allowed many of our parents who were unable to travel to Tucson feel like they were part of the event right alongside their children.â€￾

The live streaming link, www.network1sports.com received 832 hits in nine different countries including the region of French Plynesia. Hits came from New Zealand, China, Chile, Peru, Puerto Rico, Mexico and the Netherlands.

In addition to the USA HP teams, 17 regions and six countries making up 98 teams all came together in the Tucson Convention Center to be welcomed to the tournament.

USA Volleyball Senior Director Tom Pingel welcomed the teams, staff, family and friends to the event. Pingel also introduced the night’s keynote speakers as well as a special video message from the U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon.

Vice Mayor Richard Fimbres and Arizona Commissioner Haraold Cranswick thanked everyone for coming to Tucson and expressed their gratitude to be able to host such a monumental event.

The special guest of the night was 2008 Olympic gold medalist and libero of the U.S. Men’s National Team Rich Lambourne. Lambourne shared his thoughts on teamwork and the importance of coming together as a team on the court.

Wrapping up the night was the Yellow Bird Indian Dancers of Mesa, Ariz. The Native American dancers brought local talent and culture to the convention center with tradition hoop dancing, bright clothing and beautiful singing.

In addition to the opening ceremonies, all matches that will be played on court one will be web streamed and can be located at www.network1sports.com/

Some newspapers do carry volleyball articles. This is a fun one about one of the younger IREVA squad members.
