Some exciting volleyball at the BNCC (West Weneca West HS) today during Day 1 of the WEVA Championship Bid tourney.
12's: NFVB defeated Volley FX 2-0 in front of raucous crowds.
13's: NFVB defeated Volley FX 2-0.
14's: NFVB defeated Xtreme 2-0. (VFX 14-1s already have club National bid)
15's: Octane defeated Volley FX 2-0. (NFVB 15-1's already have an Open bid)
The 15's final was probably the most exciting. Kudos to the small Octane club (and their 15's team) for a feisty and very well played finals.
Good luck to teams tomorrow.

Day 2
16's
VFX 16-1 over NFVB 16-1 2-0
NFVB 17-1 over Cobra 17-1 2-0
NFVB 18-1 over VFX 18-1 2-1
Match of the day was sure the 18's final. FX cruises to a 25-20 win in game 1. NFVB comes back to tie at 13 but FX surges ahead to hold on.
Game 2 FX pushes ahead to take 3 point lead in the teens but NFVB feels the emotional swing of the crowd and with a few monster blocks by Erica Moser and thunderous kills by Alex Brown holds on to win 25-23.
Game 3 has NFVB jump to a 5-2 lead but VFX with scrappy defense and bombs from an outstanding Schirmer and Cappellino takes the lead at the switch 7-8. NFVB fights back with some defense of its own from Setter Emily Hopkins and Libero Rebecca Shoemaker and Marah Maycock gets 3 consectutive kills to take a 2 pt lead 12-10. NFVB's passing never broke though to the VFX strong jump servers and holds on for the 15-12 win. Hard fought emotional match! One to remember.
Good luck at Nationals to all the Open and National Level Bid winners. Go WEVA!

Enjoyable weekend of vb at the BNCC. High intensity of playoffs made for really great atmosphere in all the age groups. Big crowds, some excellent rallies, and ket individual plays across the board. I really liked seeing how many teams and parents stayed to cheer on their fellow clubmates after they themselves were eliminated. The NFVB 17's went right to the courtside of the 18s final. Then, when that was done, both 17s and 18s ran to the 16s final. That was happening all weekend. That's always great to see.
On a side note, the decision to keep the Qualifier bid winners (this year NFVB 15-1 and VFX 14-1s) out of the tourney is the right move. As much as it would be enjoyable to see those teams play in the event, it could really skew the outcome. In fact, the upset win in 15 & Under might never have come about had the NFVB 15s been there as Octane might have got eliminated in semis and couldn't have been eligible for even a trickle down bid.
Geat job to all coaches and athletes.
